New membrane plant expands total capacity at Kazincbarcika

Euro Chlor member company, BorsodChem has started chlor-alkali production at their new membrane chlorine plant at Kazincbarcika in Hungary.

The initial run took place following successful commissioning of the new plant which was announced in 2014.

The expansion of an additional 192 ktpa membrane chlorine production capacity expands BorsodChem’s total chlorine production capacity to 480 ktpa.

The building of a new membrane chlorine plant and shut-down of existing mercury-based chlor-alkali production were part of the Europe-wide phase out of latter technology under the EU Industrial Emissions Directive.
