The decline of trichloroethylene (TRI) sales continued after the more stringent carcinogenicity classification for trichloroethylene introduced in 2002. The ECSA Member companies and the Romanian producer Chimcomplex Borzeşti have indeed agreed, in a spirit of Responsible Care, to ensure safe use in metal degreasing by stopping supplies TRI to companies that are not equipped with closed systems after 2010.

APRIL 2008 CHLORINE PRODUCTION
Brussels, 16 May 2008 - European chlorine production reached 871,743 tonnes in April 2008, a decrease of 4.4% compared with the previous month (912,191 tonnes). Production was 2% lower than the same month last year (889,595 tonnes). In terms of average daily production, April output decreased by 1.2% against the previous month (April 2008: 29,058 tonnes; March 2008: 29,426 tonnes).
