Natural step founder speaks at conference on chlorine

Brussels, 26 November 2002 - - Karl-Henrik Robčrts, Swedish founder and chairman of the international organisation The Natural Step, has agreed to speak at a conference on sustainability and the chlorine industry in Brussels on February 24-25, 2003.

The Natural Step (TNS) was founded in 1989 by Dr Robčrts, one of Sweden's foremost cancer scientists. Today major Swedish companies such as IKEA, Electrolux and McDonalds Sweden have drawn on the TNS science-based approach to help companies, organisations and communities move towards sustainability.

The conference Lightening chlorine's footprint...steps to sustainability is organised by Euro Chlor, which represents European chlor-alkali producers. Other speakers include Catherine Day (Director-General of the EU Environment DG), Hubertus Schmoldt (President of the European Mine, Chemical and Energy Workers' Federation) and Aloďs Michielsen (chairman of the Executive Committee of Solvay).

A progress report on how the European chlor-alkali industry is establishing measurable sustainability indicators will also be given by Philippe Goebel, Executive Vice-President of Atofina. He is also a member of the governing body of the World Chlorine Council.
