European Chlorinated Solvent Association (ECSA)

02/2010

The interests of European chlorinated solvent producers and consumers are represented by ECSA (European Chlorinated Solvent Association), part of Euro Chlor.

ECSA works to support the long-term sustainability of the chlorinated solvent industry. The association defines and promotes safe practice as well as commissions toxicological studies to further increase our knowledge of the products. ECSA's goal is to ensure that hazards are identified and that proper risk management is applied by users of chlorinated solvents.

Dialogue

ECSA is the focal point for dialogue about chlorinated solvents between all parties who are interested in a better understanding of the products. All members are signatories to the chemical industry's Responsible Care programme. ECSA engages in dialogue with the European Association of Chemical Distributors and national chemical distribution associations, and with national and European trade associations representing the dry-cleaning and metal-cleaning industries. The objective is to ensure that the markets which ECSA members serve, as well as the routes to the market, are as well informed as possible about safe use practices and hazard management. Charters of Co-operation formalise some of these discussions. The ECSA outreach programme includes continual dialogue with national and European regulators and other opinion formers. A strong emphasis is placed on leadership in the provision of research and information on solvents and actively contributing to the regulatory decision-making processes.

ECSA publishes regular digests on legislative, toxicological and topical issues, as well as special publications covering product updates, guidance notes to specific industries or guidance on best management practice.

ECSA and its members also conduct national and European seminars for customers, associations, regulators and policy makers bringing the latest scientific knowledge and information on use to the widest possible audience.

Regular contact is maintained with the US Halogenated Solvents Industry Alliance (HSIA) and the Japan Association for Hygiene of Chlorinated Solvents (JAHCS).
