Euro Chlor Science Programme
10/2008 The principal goal of the Euro Chlor science programme is to provide scientifically-sound data and information to enhance the European chlorine industry's credibility and prospects for long-term sustainability. Euro Chlor works with experts from its member companies as well as independent scientists to develop scientific information addressing health and environmental issues. This information aims to enhance stakeholders' knowledge of chlorine issues. The stakeholders include scientists, regulators and the general public. To meet the needs of these different groups, the information produced by Euro Chlor is designed for expert and lay person alike: Marine risk assessments have been produced for 25 chlorine-related substances to help the authorities better understand the potential risks from chemicals; special in-depth Science Dossiers on various compounds and topics are produced for the scientific community and Key Science Information Sheets (KSIS) are produced to help non-scientists understand science issues. The same goes for the series of Focus on Chlorine Science (FOCS) leaflets, aiming to clarify and consolidate scientific research in chlorine chemistry and thus facilitating the knowledge gathering of scientists, regulators and key decision makers. To provide a clear picture of progress made by our industry in assessing potential risks from chlorine-based chemicals, we provide up-to-date material generated under the voluntary High Production Volume (HPV) chemicals programme. A series of updates on natural organohalogens and bio(de)halogenation is also available, as well as proceedings from workshops on scientific topics of particular interest to the chlor-alkali industry. Euro Chlor has developed science-based codes of practice* for human health to ensure safe working conditions related to chlorine and its derivatives throughout the industry. *After clicking on this link, in 'category' select health and in 'keywords' select code of practice.
