Covestro’s chlorine production in Uerdingen expanded
Covestro recently invested an amount in the mid double-digit million range to expand its chlorine plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen as part of a major shutdown. During a major shutdown of several plants last year, two new additional electrolysers were integrated into the chlorine plant. The chlorine electrolysis now has twelve electrolysers. The expansion benefits not only production, but also the environment For the new electrolysers, new pipes for chlorine drying and a new second brine tank were installed in order to adapt the entire system to the increased demand. A total of over 1000 metres of pipeline were laid. Further modernisations will follow to gradually replace old parts of the system, as well as the chlorine storage tanks.
