Euro Chlor submits response to consultation on ETS
Emission Trading System consultation finishes in May
The Euro Chlor Energy Task Force is currently finalising its contribution to the public consultation for the revision of the Emission Trading System (ETS) State aid Guidelines being conducted by the European Commission’s (EC) Directorate-General for Competition before the deadline of 16 May. The EC adopted these Guidelines in 2012 in the context of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission allowance trading scheme post-2012 to allow Member States to compensate some electro-intensive undertakings active in a sector exposed to international trade, for part of the higher electricity costs.
This public consultation follows hot on the heels of a targeted consultation to which the Energy Task Force submitted a joint Euro Chlor response on 16 April. In this response, the sector demonstrated that it is confronted with carbon leakage due to indirect emissions costs and that compensation is needed to maintain its competitive position. Thanks go to our members who made a valuable contribution.
