Major milestone for Euro Chlor biocides process

28/03/2017

Assessment reports to support applications for chlorinated active substances have now been made available by ECHA, meaning biocidal product applications can now begin in earnest!

On 14 December 2016, the ECHA Biocidal Product Committee agreed to approve the opinions on the biocidal active substances chlorine, calcium hypochlorite and sodium hypochlorite in PT1-5 (disinfectants). This has now led to the publication of the assessment reports by the Italian evaluating competent authority.

Work on these actives has been going on for well over a decade and the approval of the opinions was published on 17 January 2017. In light of this, product registration works can now begin, taking the next 18 months.

Whilst assessment reports can be found on the ECHA website as of March 2017, the Euro Chlor biocidal registration groups will still be involved with works on PT11 and 12 over (approximately) the next 5 years for the hypochlorite active substances.
