SPOLCHEMIE announces the conversion to a membrane electrolysis

24/02/2016

The building began in 2014 in a site in Usti nad Labem, the Czech Republic and nowadays is near to completion of construction works. The new plant will substitute the current mercury electrolysis, which is to be phased out in line with the EU legislation.

By this step, SPOLCHEMIE will make an important contribution to the global phasing out of mercury in chlor-alkali industry and align with the EU regulation in this matter. Furthermore, the new plant will ensure the long-term sustainability of Spolchemie’s vertically integrated site.

CEO Mr. Daniel Tamchyna commented: "The SPOLCHEMIE membrane electrolysis project strengthens our strategic position as the leading producer of potassium hydroxide in Central Europe and as a significant player on the EU market".
