PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, is a flexible plastic material that can be used to make rolls or tiles of flooring. Advantages of PVC flooring include its durability and its smooth surface which makes it easy to clean and desirable for us as flooring in schools and hospitals. It can be printed with many colours and patterns or made to resemble natural materials such as wood, stone or concrete. When used in the form of tiles, it can be easily to cut into different shapes and any damaged tiles can be replaced individually.

Another product that is often used on floors is nylon carpeting, which originates form a chlorinated compound, 1,4-dichlorobutane. It is one of the most commonly used materials for making carpets which are easy to clean and have good resilience towards wear and tear.
